IncontiLase
A non-surgical Er:YAG laser treatment for mild to moderate stress urinary incontinence.
What it is
IncontiLase is a non-surgical laser treatment for stress urinary incontinence — leakage that occurs on coughing, sneezing, laughing or exercise — where symptoms are mild to moderate.
How it works
Controlled Er:YAG laser energy is applied to the anterior vaginal wall with the aim of tightening the tissue that supports the urethra. Change, where it occurs, develops over the weeks following treatment.
Assessment comes first
Urinary incontinence has several distinct causes, and they are not all treated the same way. Urge incontinence, mixed incontinence and prolapse need different management, and some cases are better served by pelvic floor physiotherapy or by surgical referral. Treatment is only offered after the type of incontinence has been established, and referral is made where that is the appropriate step.
What to expect
A course of sessions is usual. Improvement is not guaranteed, and the degree of benefit varies between individuals. This will be discussed honestly before any treatment is agreed.
Safety information
All medical procedures carry risk. The points below are general and are not a substitute for an individual assessment.
Possible side effects
Temporary discharge, mild discomfort or spotting. Less commonly, infection, or no improvement in symptoms.
May not be suitable if
Pregnancy, active genital or urinary infection, urge or mixed incontinence without assessment, significant pelvic organ prolapse, unexplained bleeding, or current or suspected malignancy. Urogynaecological assessment may be required first.
