Dermal Filler Augmentation
Hyaluronic acid filler placed to restore or refine facial proportion, including the cheeks, temples, nasolabial folds and marionette lines.
What it is
Dermal fillers are gels, most commonly based on hyaluronic acid, placed beneath the skin to restore volume or refine contour. Common areas include the cheeks, temples, nasolabial folds, marionette lines and chin.
How it works
The gel occupies space beneath the skin, supporting the tissue above it. The effect is visible immediately, then settles over one to two weeks as swelling resolves. Hyaluronic acid fillers are gradually broken down by the body, so the result is temporary and its duration varies by product, site and individual.
Safety
Filler is a medical procedure with real risks, not a cosmetic service. The most serious complication — occlusion of a blood vessel — is uncommon but requires immediate recognition and treatment. Assessment of your anatomy, an honest discussion of what is achievable, and informed consent all take place before any injection.
What to expect
- Consultation and assessment of facial proportion first
- Swelling and possible bruising for several days
- Final appearance settles over one to two weeks
- A review appointment where appropriate
Safety information
All medical procedures carry risk. The points below are general and are not a substitute for an individual assessment.
Possible side effects
Swelling, bruising, tenderness, lumpiness or asymmetry. Rarely but seriously, filler can obstruct a blood vessel, which can cause skin loss or, very rarely, visual loss. This risk is the reason filler must be placed by a trained medical practitioner who can manage the complication.
May not be suitable if
Pregnancy or breastfeeding, active infection or inflammation at the treatment site, known hypersensitivity to hyaluronic acid, autoimmune conditions or bleeding disorders without medical clearance.
